About
Turbo Encabultor is made by WeldonPC, 5829 Turney Road, Garfield Heights, Ohio 44125.
Turbo Encabultor is a parody and novelty site. It generates original, deadpan "spec sheets" for anything you type, each with a parts list, a table of invented specifications and a blueprint drawn by code. It is free to use and share. Printable extras are paid for with small site credits called Cogs.
Why the spelling is different
Why 'Encabultor'? We machined one 'a' out of the name to save weight. The famous turbo encabulator is a 1944 engineering joke; this is our own, entirely original, slightly lighter take.
Where the joke came from
The turbo encabulator first appeared in December 1944, in a piece by John Hellins Quick in the Students' Quarterly Journal of the British Institution of Electrical Engineers. Time magazine brought it to American readers in 1946, General Electric engineers gave it a mock data sheet in 1962, and from about 1977 it was performed on film, most famously in versions associated with Rockwell Automation and Chrysler. Our history page tells the story with links to Wikipedia and the IET Digital Library.
What is ours
All of it. The generator's vocabulary, the blueprint drawings, the fictional maker (The Encabultor Works, Department of Unnecessary Precision) and the brass gear with the missing tooth were made for this site. We do not reproduce the original text, the 1962 sheet or any film, and a built-in check keeps the original's invented words out of everything the site generates.
