Using the generator

• No account, no sign-up and no cookies for ordinary visits.
• No analytics services and no tracking cookies. Most public pages show one banner ad from adengine.us, WeldonPC's own ad network (see Advertising). Apart from that ad, your browser leaves this site only when you choose to pay at PayPal or follow a link.
• We count page views on our own server by page and day. The count holds no IP address and nothing that identifies you.
• To limit abuse we keep a one-way hash of your IP address, mixed with a secret, for rate limits and reports. We do not store the address itself.

Advertising

The generator and its results, the Machine of the Day, the Hall of Machines and the machines listed in it, the technobabble generator, the history pages, the parts catalogue, the certificate page, Cogs and prices, the FAQ and About show one banner ad below the page, labelled "Advertisement". It comes from AdEngine (adengine.us), the small ad network run by WeldonPC, the company behind this site. For now the ads are for WeldonPC's own services. Sign-in, wallet, checkout, order, save and report pages, these legal pages and error pages show no ad.

To show the ad, your browser loads a script from adengine.us, asks it for one banner, loads the banner image, and reports once that the page was viewed and once that the banner was shown. Like any website, adengine.us receives your IP address, your browser type and the address of this site with those requests.

• No cookies, no profile. AdEngine sets no cookies, gives you no ID and does not track you from site to site.
• How your IP address is used. adengine.us looks up the approximate city for your IP address in a location database kept on its own server (nothing is sent to anyone else), so that ads meant for one area are shown only there. It also uses the address to count each ad view or click only once and to leave out robots and WeldonPC's own office traffic. The address is not stored with the counts; the temporary entries made from it expire within six hours and are cleared from the server within two days.
• What is kept. Daily totals only: page views for this site, and views and clicks for each ad. The adengine.us web server also keeps a standard access log (IP address, time, address requested, referring site, browser) for security; it is deleted on a rolling schedule.
• Clicking an ad passes through adengine.us, which counts the click, and then opens the advertiser's site, which has its own privacy policy.
• Nothing about you is sold or shared.

If you save, sign in or buy

• A session cookie is set. It is needed to keep you signed in and to protect forms.
• A wallet stores your email address, your Cog balance and ledger, your orders (PayPal order and capture IDs, amount, the State you chose) and the items you unlocked.
• Names and messages you type for certificates, cards and nameplates are stored so the files can be made again.
• Payments are handled by PayPal. We never see or store your card number.

Text written with AI

If the Chief Engineer's Edition is on offer and you buy one, the machine's own data (its name, subject, parts and specifications, and any nameplate you added) is sent to our AI provider, OpenAI, to write the text, and the result is checked by an automated moderation step (also OpenAI). Nothing else is sent: not your email address, not your IP address, not your wallet or payment details. The provider handles what it receives under its own API terms.

Email

We send only what you ask for: sign-in links, receipts and refund notices. The one exception is a single "Cogs are on sale" message if you asked for it before packs went on sale; it has an unsubscribe link and is sent once. Every email carries our postal address.

Your choices

• Export: your wallet page has a button that downloads everything we hold about your wallet.
• Delete: your wallet page has a delete button. It erases your email address and the names and messages you typed. Order records are kept for the accounts, with nothing in them that identifies you.

Children

This is a general-audience humour site. It is not directed to children under 13 and asks for no personal information to use the generator. You must be 18 or older to buy.

On our own server in the United States. We do not sell or share personal information.
